Nicole Miller went back to the 70's for her fall 2012 collection last Friday.
The entire collection had a psychedelic rock n roll vibe that reminded me of Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, and even Jimi Hendrix. Her groovy color palette was a mix of Browns, yellows, purple, blues, red, and black in an array of 70's inspired prints like tie dye, plaid, and patch work. Yet the collection kept a modern feel with iridescent chiffon's, metallic print's, lace, fur, and velvet.Overall Nicole Miller collection was right on.

Elegant, beautiful and refined! That is how I would describe Tadashi's Shoji fall 2012 collection, that was inspired by the golden age of Shanghai. With lush colors in sea-grass, marina, ginseng, and hazel, Tadashi's collection had a 1920-30's feel. Beautiful lace and silk chiffon's flowed sultrily down the runway. The drop waist dresses, and column gowns were refreshing to see as well as the extended hemlines. Yet the collection still keep a modern feel with an unprecedented sophistication. The Rebecca Minkoff show is all about girl power. The designer celebrates women and their independence. With Jewel tones, prints, and primary hues, the collection was a mixed of menswear inspired pieces and a little rock n roll. The beginning of the show started with a live performance by Theophilus London. Then the 1st girl hit the runway to audience applause. New York Fashion Week is only days away and I am bursting with anticipation to see the fall 2012 collections from veteran designers like BCBGMAXAZRIA, Nicole Miller, Custo Barcelona, Betsey Johnson, Badgley Mischka, Anna Sui, Diane Von Furstenberg, Michael Kors, and for the first time designers such as Bibhu Mohapatra, Falguni & Shane Peacock, Son Jung Wan, Haus Alkire, Leather Japan 2012, Whitney Eve and much more. Keep checking in daily for full coverage of the weeks long event, our color and trend predictions, as well as celebrity snap shots and all the “fashion and accessories” from the runway and fashionistas on site. Gay Men's Heath Crisis (GMHC) hosted their 5th annual Fashion Forward charity gala on Thursday November 17 at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City. The event unites fashion, celebrity, silent and live auctions to help raise funds for the fight against AIDS. Hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross and Brad Goreski, the affair brought out top designers and elite professionals all dedicated to help prevent and find a cure for the disease .This year GMHC also honored Socialite Julie Macklowe with the Inaugural Style Vault Award.

The soiree began with a nice cocktail reception, and red carpet arrivals, followed by several products silently auctioned including Julie Macklowe very own luxury skin care line vbeauté. Tracee Elis Ross and Brad Goreski also lead a live auction with luxury prizes like vacation packages to France, Brazil and Sweden, Armani Exchange fashion, Apple ipad 2, and more . However, the main attraction of the night was the fashion show featuring over 70 professional models both male and female wearing the latest runway looks donated from designers Chris Benz, Thom Browne, Jean Paul Gaultier, Marlon Gobel, Sally Lapointe, Zang Toi, Timo Weiland, and VPL. Guest include, The Blonds, Mike Ruiz, Jenny Shimizu, Thom Browne, Bryan Boy & Kyle Anderson,Leila Lopes (miss universe),Chrissy Teigen, and Carlos Campos to name a few. Overall the night was a blast, and lots of money was raise to fight against AIDS.

Sex is a natural basic human and animal instinct. The arousal and orgasmic sensation that is derived from sex is truly a gift from God or Nature. We are hard wired to seek out sex, not just for procreation but for pleasure as well. Unfortunately with such pleasure there is also the danger of sex. Sexually transmitted diseases such as syphilis for example have always been an affliction to our global economy for many centuries pass and went unchecked through society until the 20th century with the birth of antibiotics.
But with the sexual revolution and the increase acceptance of sex outside traditional relationships, a new disease resistant to antibiotics quickly spread and is presently a threat to everyone who is sexually active. AIDS is the most devastating sexually transmitted disease to date. It has struck fear into the heart of all who are sexually active and has changed our behavior to a great extent. In the height of the epidemic the homosexual community was the first to be afflicted and shunned with more than the average percentage dying from the disease in the early eighties. Today not only are homosexuals affected but a large majority of heterosexual men, women, and children from all over the world. It is no longer just a gay man’s disease.

With that said, one of the oldest not-for-profit organizations dedicated to the prevention, care, and advocacy of HIV/AIDS is GMHC (Gay Man’s Health Crisis). Founded in 1981 by six men, the organization is dedicated to finding a cure and bettering the lives of all who is affected. The group has help raise money for medical research and improved health care through fundraisers and special events. GMHC has a large community of volunteers, supporters, and members all dedicated to the spread and prevention of AIDS. Today AIDS is still on the rise especially in many diverse communities and third world countries. We Are Family Foundation's 10 Year Celebration Gala

Last night was the 10 year celebration gala for the We Are Family Foundation that was held at the Manhattan center’s Hammerstein Ballroom. Hosted by Rosie Perez, many celebrities, fashion moguls, and socialites were out to lend their support and celebrate the foundation and its founding father legendary song-writer, musician, and producer Nile Rodgers as he accepted the We Are Family Humanitarian Award.

The four time Grammy nominee started the foundation not long after the September 11 2001 terrorist attracts. Wanting to give hope and make a difference just days after the attack, Nile along with Tommy Silverman (president of Tommy Boy Records) gathered over 200 celebrities from all areas of the entertainment industry to re-record Nile’s 1979 hit song “ We are Family” written for and song by the group Sister Sledge. The song with its powerful message of unity had a profound impact on the world after its re-release in light of the traumatic events. In 2002, Nile and Christopher Cerf (award winning children’s TV/music producer) re-recorded a children’s version of the song. The music video was recorded with help from over 100 children’s characters such as Big Bird, Dora the Explorer, and Barney to name a few. Again the message was clear and the impact unfathomable. This was just the beginning. Today the foundation with its global teen leaders has grown to help our youngest members all over the world by creating programs that inspire, educate, alleviate, and spread the message of a global family.

Some of the guest from last night’s event were Andre Leon Talley, Dionne Warwick, Montel Williams, Jackson Brown, GZA, Q-Tip, Kathy Sledge and the B52’s to name a few. The program included musical performances, dinner, and a live auction. The dressy affair was a mix of long gowns, cocktail/party dresses, suits, to denim and suit jacket combos. Actress/choreographer, and Brooklyn’s own Rosie Perez looked fantastic in a long navy blue satin gown, and Dionne Warwick looked chic in her black wrap cape trimmed with sable. Nile Roberts also looked great in his black suit and head tie. Overall the celebration helped raised funds for the foundation and brought together friends and family for a good cause.

Shoes and clothing is necessary in life, but add fashion and it becomes deliciously tempting and decadent. It’s what drives the consumer to buy, and is the core of the industry. Fashion characterizes style and shows personalities that otherwise would be lost without it. I love fashion! There are many areas in fashion, but the one area I am most willing to indulge in is shoes.
Most women including myself will lust after the right pair of shoes. It makes us feel sexy, seductive, and downright alluring with or without clothing. Point blank, the right pair of shoe completes and adds to a look. We all want the latest trend, whether we can afford it or not. And like most, I want to own a pair of Jimmy Choo, Christian Louboutin, Alexander McQueen, Dior, Nicholas Kirkwood, Fendi , and so many others. But, I am not as fortunate as some; until that day, I buy what I can afford. Even if I cannot afford to buy a shoe the same price as my rent, I do not have to be out of style. I am a true fashionista! There are so many shoe stores out there that capitalizes on this fact. Stores like Aldo, Bakers, DSW, Steve madden, and Payless to name a few are stacked with affordable shoes that are on trend and stylish. It’s just a matter of your personal taste. Have you ever compared a high end brand name shoe with a similar less expensive one? The only difference is name and quality. The Heart of a New Master, Fashion Designer Danilo Gabrielli

Elegantly classic with an edge, that is how I would describe fashion designer Danilo Gabrielli‘s clothing. His quest for detail and craftsmanship gives each piece character and timeless wear-ability. For spring/summer 2012 Mr. Gabrielli début his first American collection at Nolcha Fashion Week in New York City to great reviews. And for this Italian born designer, it was the first hurdle to a lifelong dream.

Born in Porto Santo Stefano located in the municipality of Monte Argentario, in the Province of Grosseto, the Tuscany region of Italy, Danilo’s passion and love of fashion really came from his mother and by watching old Hollywood films, and for his first collection it’s no surprise he drew his inspiration from one of Hollywood’s sexist and iconic screen legends, Miss Brigitte Bardot. Each piece in his collection is beautifully constructed with ingenuity and attention to detail. His silhouettes are clean and simple, yet ooze an undefined sex appeal and elegance reminiscent of the screen legend. Danilo only uses the best fabrics, from Swiss white cotton eyelet to double face silk organza to laser cut waxed embroidery trimmed in leather, and though his collection is small, there is a variety of dressy looks from day into evening for both men and women.

When I first meet with Mr. Gabrielli, I was pleasingly surprise to see how humbled, excited, and passionate he is to create his first clothing line under his name. One can easily see the time, dedication, and hard work it took to be in the position he is today. But do not take this designer for granted. Although this is his first collection, Danilo is highly skilled and accomplished. Before coming to New York, he served three years in the Italian Navy to save up enough money to go to one of the most influential fashion schools in Rome (The Accadamia Pistoiese). During this time he found great success in the Italian fashion market as a costume designer, and upon his graduation he made the decision to come to New York City. Once in New York, he quickly found success as an accessory designer for Geoffrey Beene, and eventually become a senior designer for many esteemed labels such as Tommy Hilfiger and Simply Vera Wang. Now with his label in place, the sky is the limit.

New York Fashion Week....Spring/Summer 2012

It's day three at Lincoln Center and the shows are hot! The spring/summer 2012 collections are in full swing. On the scene at Vivienne Tam were Wendy Williams, Angela Simmons, and super model Beverly Johnson. For spring/summer 2012, Vivienne Tam showed lots of prints in great hugs of color. Of course, her signature embroidery and fridge were apparent through out the collection. Adam also had a wonderful collection with light bright colors in simple elegant pieces. Prabal Gurung showed dresses that are brilliantly cut and shaped. His use of the colors violet, white, black, and teal were refreshing. Charlotte Ronson's flirty and feminine collection had great splashes of color in dainty prints and textures. Other collections debuting today are Venexiana, Alexander Wang, and Christian Siriano. The trend so far, long and flowing, lots of see through, and the color "white".

Similar to Premiere Vision, Texworld USA is another textile trade show. Held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City, Texworld is the largest fabric and trim sourcing trade fair in North America. For three days only, designers, buyers, and inside professionals can source the women's, children's, and Men's markets in one large area. Vender's showing here are from Asia and all over the world. Unlike Premiere Vision, the seminars here offers the entrepreneur/professional not only seasons trend and color forecast, but also information on improving and financing your business. Here are some highlights from the show.

Premiere Vision Preview Fall Winter 2012-13

The Première Vision textile show ended this evening after a two day run at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City. This year the show added a special presentation along with the textile merchants. Looks from ten young fashion designers, finalist of the 26 Hyères Festival which took place in the south of France was displayed at the show. Each designers creation was innovative and out of this world fantastic. Designer Céline Metéil was the winner of the Première Vision Prize. Her all white collection was very structured yet light and transparent. Each piece had a three dimensional quality that made them very interesting. The other designers presented were Oriane Leclercq, Juliette Alleaume and Marie Vial, Mads Dinesen, Michael Kampe, Maryam Kordbacheh, Janosch Mallwitz, Oda Pausma, Emilie Meldem, and Léa Peckre. Each designers piece was beautiful and a work of art.

Textile Exhibitors:
The textile exhibit was just as impressive, and for fall 2012/13 fabrics with textures, shine, and patterns are key. The show was broken down into four categories, Seduction, Distinction, Relax, and Pulsation. Each category featured an abundance of fabrics by exhibitors with like similarities. For-instance, the Relax group featured fabrics for casualwear, jeanswear, and sportswear, while Seduction feature fabrics that were fluid and fanciful. The companies showing here are from different countries all over the world, and the show attracts fashion designers, buyers, press, and many industry professionals in the US and overseas. In addition, Premiere Vision offers trend forecasting seminars; and display a big color wall with the seasons key color trends. Color cards are also available for purchase $$$$. Overall the two day event was worth it. As a designer, sourcing for new fabric is a constant, and events like this offer a great resource to individuals who normally are not able to find and work with such companies. The next Premiere Vision Preview New York show will be held on January 10-11 2012 at the Metropolitan Pavilion and Altman Building. If you are fortunate and able to travel to Paris this year, Premiere Vision Paris is taking place on September 20-22 2011. Here are some highlights from the show.

Fashion Industries graduation fashion show, with honorees Isabel and Ruben Toledo

It was a breath of fresh air seeing young, creative minds come together not only to put together this event, but to see them with such a deep passion for fashion. The High School of Fashion Industries celebrated their graduating class with a year end fashion extravaganza. The theme of the show was represented by various continents and elements of their native attire including bridal gowns. Their collections included, Africa, Asia, India and America. The show was modeled in its entirety by the students who definitely strut their stuff proudly.

The evening started out with a brief introduction of the school and then the husband and wife team Ruben and Isabel Toledo took the stage. Isabel, who does not actually know how to sketch, conveys her thoughts and ideas to Ruben who then pens them and makes them come to life. "It goes from my lips to Ruben's pen" said Isabel. When asked how is it to work so closely with your husband, she describes it as a way of expressing herself and she really would not have it any other way.

The Toledo family originally got involved with the High School of Fashion Industries through one of the board of directors Ruth Finlay whom they have worked very closely with. That is why when the opportunity came up for them to participate their designs and artwork, the Toledos decided to go full force and put all their creative energy into making an even bigger event.

As we say au revoir to class of 2011, this show has just set the bar for the class of 2012 who are anxiously awaiting their turn to be on display.

The High School of Fashion Industries is the only high school of its kind in eastern United States. Our occupational curriculum devotes itself entirely to the world of fashion from styling and design through business and marketing.

Representatives from the National Center for Research in Vocational Education (nationally recognized organization associated with the University of California and the U.S. Department of Education) wrote after a visit to our school: "Students we observed in classes and spoke with in groups were self-confident and motivated. They expressed great pride in their school, respect and admiration for their teachers, ad a strong sense of commitment to their education. They clearly felt a sense of connection to the school and the school family. It was like walking into a garden filled with an array of flowers. The backstage area of Gotham Hall quickly transformed into a magical garden were sweet floral aromas filled the air. The 10th Annual 'Tulips and Pansies the headdress affair" took place last night and was without a doubt a major success. Supporters came out to raise funds for VilageCare, a non profit organization that aims to improve the quality of life of those living with HIV/AIDS.

The event was hosted by fashion guru and television host James Aguiar whose witty personality and charm were well received. Each year the best designers from the fashion and floral worlds are paired together and combine forces to make these over-the-top one of a kind pieces. However, what gives this an interesting twist is that the event is judged by several different celebrities including the category for most entertaining headdress and most beautiful.

This year the judges were Beth Broderick, "Aunt Zelda" from Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Michael Musto writer for the Village Voice, Daphne Rubin Vega two time Tony nominee and Broadway actress and Mike Ruiz a world renowned photographer. This was an event that required our biggest headpieces and a lot of glitter! Everyone came out in great style, all smiles and most important, for a wonderful cause.

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

Lee Alexander McQueen was truly one of the great master couturier of our time. He was an inspiration to me and countless other fashion designers. The raw passion, craftsmanship, and creativity in his work transcends time and fashion making them masterpieces of art. "Savage Beauty" is the new exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. The exhibit will be on display now through to July 31. Many of the designers radical and iconic designs are on display from his post graduate collection, to being creative director at Givenchy, and finally to his own London design house.

The drama and showmanship throughout the collections was unbelievably fantastic. Every intricate detail, cut, and tailoring is right there for you to examine and appreciate his extraordinary talent. Alexander went beyond the boundaries of conventional fashion and created unique compositions that incorporate technological ingenuity. Also on display is the beautiful and extravagant head-pieces created for Alexander by the great hat designer Philip Treacy. One particular I fell in love with was the bird hat made of wood and coral, shown above.

Alexander will be missed and is a tremendous lost to the fashion industry. However, this exhibit is filled with works to be treasured. This is a must see exhibit for any designer and fashionista who can appreciate the craft.

"Fashion after Bark"

The pet product and service industry has exploded over the years and has become a multi-billion dollar business; and it's no surprise as pet lovers pamper, travel, groom and splurge on their beloved animals; that have become such a significant member of the family unit . One particular sector of this growing market is fashion. Pet fashion has become an integrated part of the global fashion industry; and pet fashion designers are growing and becoming popular in the pet world. Even well know fashion companies such as Ralph Lauren has extended their product line to include classic dog polo, and the sporty puffer vest, to name a few. This being said, I was invited to my 1st dog fashion show at the Fashion Institute of Technology. There, each student of the Pet Product Design and Marketing Profe ssional Development Certificate Program out did themselves as each designer show case their final design.
However, the pooches stole the show as one by one they came out in everything from a black velvet cape with pearl necklace, to bright yellow raincoats, peacock feather leash, knitted sweaters, feather trim hats, and lace and tool evening wear. This is the third annual canine fashion show held at the school, and the Amphitheater was packed with family, friends, celebrities and industry professionals. Among them was Mario Difante, executive director of pet fashion week NY, Fern Mallis, Creator of New York Fashion Week, and vice president of IMG Fashion, and Sonja Morgan from the Real House Wife of New York. Guest DJ was Lenny Emery. The dogs featured in the show was from Posh Pet Rescue and all are up for adoption.

The Making of a Dress!

Ever open your closet and think to yourself "OMG, I have absolutely nothing to wear! No matter how you shop for more clothes, eventually they get old and that statement is repeated in your head again; and in this economy saving is a plus. Well, with my basic draping knowledge and sewing skills , I decided to make a dress. Fortunately I had a beautiful crocodile faux leather fabric in my bag of goodies for some time.
When I bought the fabric, I wanted to make a pair of skinny pants. But, as I took another look at the fabric, I decided to make a dress. Instead of your typical strapless fitted number, I wanted a more classic 50's look.
Yet with this type of fabric, color, and shine,the dress will stand out. I designed the dress with a simple sleeveless bodice and a full circular skirt and short peplums on the side. I wanted to add something more special to the dress, so I decided to go opulent. I had some really cool beaded appliques from the Tinsel Trading Co. that looked vintage, and a palm size orange color glass stone bead that added a richness to the dress. Surrounding the glass bead is a antique gold chain that adds a border and acts as a stone setting. Lined with black cotton broadcloth, I am happy with the finished look. With the right accessories and styling, the dress is ready to wear.

Ivana Helsinki fall 2011 collection was the final show to end Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Her "Velvet Lake" collection was simple, wearable, and conservatively chic. Inspired by nature, her "Velvet Lake" prints in mint green and rose on black background was very pretty and bold. Also, The peacock feather print long dress flowed gracefully down the runway. Another trend used this season was the fringe, and Ivana was no exception. Her all over fringe dresses long and short was graceful and elegant. Her collection also embodied a 60's vibe not only with the fringe dresses but because of the bee hive hair do, dark eye makeup, and boots. OMG ~ The Blonds show was out of this world spectacular! Think Diana Ross in Mahogany, the 70's era, Asian influences and a lot of sparkle and fun. Now think "The Blonds" I need not say more. Their corsets are to die for; and the cat-suits are drop dead sexy.The show opened with a kick ass video follow by two Chinese red dragons that were very entertaining and cute. Then pow, in your face raw fierceness. My favorite piece in the collection was the "Chop Chop white sequence corset with black chopstick detail. " Every year The Blond's out do themselves with a great show and superb mastery in technique. Their beading and embellishments are to be admired. In the front row, singer Keri Hilson, rapper Eve, Miss J, J Alexander, and Nigel Barker. Held at Milk Studios, the show was intimate, exhilarating, and one of the best this fashion week. Vivienne Tam 2011 Runway Show

Using the elaborate costumes of "The Kun Opera" as her inspiration, Vivianne Tam's fall 2011 collection was filled with texture, intricate crochet patterns, fringe details, and lace appliques. The wool jackets and skirts were beautifully decorated and tailored. Her collection was modern and chic. The runways at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week were filled with bright golden yellow hues! In fact, I was almost blinded by the light. The strappy mini-dress (showed on the top left) and lemony glitzy dress (top right) are from Herve Leger by Max Azria. The 2 below are some flowing yellow dresses from Tadashi Shoji. I loved watching as the runways at Lincoln Center glow with vibrant solid dresses. We saw long and short silhouettes, some very flowing and others that hugged the body. Start buying yellow... its the number one color for Fall 2011!

Fall 2011 is all about FIRE!!

The runways this fashion week were loaded with fiery reds, yellows, and oranges!! Evidently, 2011 is not a year to hold back or blend in. Designers seemed to favor the over-the-top bright hues... and not just on the mini dresses. We saw everything from head-to-toe gowns in saturated solid brights, as well as chunky furs, comfy wools, and luxurious knits. On top left, is a long ethereal red dress from Michael Kors. To the right, you will notice a red rose-like dress from Naeem Khan that hits perfectly at the knee. The outfit below to the far left is from BCBGmaxazria and to the right a model wears an orange fur coat at Luca Luca. If you're gonna be bold, this is how we recommend doing it! From flaming lips to burnt orange furs and solid red dresses... The runways certainly all had an evident cohesiveness. In the middle, a model wears a reddish floral evening gown at Venexiana and bright red lip gloss, and to the right a model wears long deep V-neck dress and nude heels at BCBGmaxazria. Short is out and long dresses are back. No time to be afraid to stand out this fall. Time to wear red and be bold!

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2011

This time of the year Mercedes Benz Fashion week is one of many major events in New York City. Celebrities and fashionistas are out in droves to see the collections of some of the biggest name in fashion. The weeks long event started out with a bang , as the Hearts Truth Red Dress Collection fashion show brought out the celebrities for a good cause. Big names such as Patti Labelle and Natashia Bedingfield, to name a few walked the runway in support to help fight heart disease. Day one premiered the collections of Christian Siriano, Richard Chai, BCBGMAXAZRIA, Duckie Brown, and Nicholas K, while day two started off with Ruffian, followed by Tess Giberson, Perry Ellis, Tommy Hilfiger Men's , Academy of Art University, and ended with Venexiana to a standing ovation. As day three wraps up, Charlotte Ronson premiered her collection to a full house, music by Samantha Ronson, and stars such as Russell Simmons, and La La, took front row. G-STAR RAW fall 2011 collection was a big success with the buyers and editors. Fall Trend include, Chunky knits, embellishments and shine, as well as classic suiting and fur trim coats.

Excitement surrounds New York Fashion Week as the new venue is starting to feel like the old, except more cramped! As the days continue, Stress, anxiety, and a over-whelming feeling to change ones shoes from four inch heels to flats, takes priority . What we women do for fashion! Anyway, here's a quick review of the last three days.
Day four debut the collections of Derek Lam, Rebecca Taylor, Max Azria, Diane Von Furstenberg, Custo Barcelona, and Tommy Hilfiger. Derek Lam's collection was clean and sophisticated. His colors were black, white, beige, with beautiful prints in chiffon, and very tailored denim jackets, skirts, and pants. very city chic and modern. Custo Barcelona is one of many master's of mixing prints and different fabrics together. Multi-colored feathered skirts, print on top of prints, beading, embroidery, practically every technique in one outfit, yet it works. every outfit looks modern, beautiful, fun, interesting, sexy, colorful, and wearable. Gotta love Custo! Rebecca Taylor's collection was a breath of fresh air with light flowing prints. Denim was one of the main fabrics used in the collection. Blue, yellow, green, beige, white were her color palette of choice. The big show of the day was Tommy Hilfiger. Open back dresses, printed as well as solid tops, shorts, and blazers were preppy chic. The men's wear was amazing. Each season Tommy manage to take his signature classic all American sportswear look and make it fresh and new. But, the best part of the day was not over! Tommy attracted a celebrity packed crowed. On the scene, Russell Simmons, Kimora Lee, Neil Patrick Harris, Denise Richards, Jeremy Piven, and J Lo to name a few. After the show, Celebrity and guest dashed over to the 25th anniversary after party which took place on site in the adjacent building. The Strokes gave a stellar performance that night and made every one get up and shake their badonkadonk! Finger food, free drinks, hot celebrities, great music, and conversation made the Tommy Hilfiger 25th anniversary party the place to be. It was one of the many highlights of fashion week.

Day five, was the preview of Carolina Herrera, Tracy Reese, Monique Lhuillier, Betsey Johnson and the Perry Ellis fashion shows. The Tracey Reese show was girly and chic. Graphic and floral prints, brown, white, blue, and purple lit up the catwalk. Topping off the looks were hats, sun glasses, and handbags. Beautifully made evening dresses in coral, white, black, and pink were absolutely amazing. Her looks were timeless, sophisticated and beautiful. The Betsey Johnson fashion show was incredible. Not only is she back showing at fashion week after many years, she still got it. Sexy fluff dresses, playful colors and prints, skate board punks, gun prints, and navy inspired fashions were presented the way only Betsey can. And like a true veteran, at the end she cart wheeled down the runway, at the wonderful age of 68.

Day six was the presentation show of Badgley Mischka, as well as Vara Wang, Luca Luca, Narcisco Rodriguez and Toni Francesc. Badgley Mischka's runway presentation was full of romanticism. Light flowing chiffon's and silks in colors of salmon, white, beige, and sea foam green, fluttered down the runway. Narcisco Rodriguez collection was quite this season with a minimalistic approach. Clean cut jackets, skirts, pant and tops were sharp, structured, and simple. Dresses were fluid, with an understated sexiness. Toni Francesc collection was beautiful. Cleverly draped and manipulated fabrics, Origami-es folds on jackets, easy fitted pants and tops made this collection interesting, because it still had a structural look. His colors were beige black, coral, off white and blue. Tomorrow, General Idea, Gottex, Anna Sui, Mackage, and Zang Toi.

Day 3 - Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2011

Another day here at the shows and the excitement is still electric in the air. Anticipation is growing for the Prabal Gurung fashion show as well as Charlotte Ronson and Z spoke by Zac Posen. Also showing today, is Cynthia Rowley, Venexiana, and Lacoste. It's now 1pm and the Prabal Gurung show is about to start. The lights go down; here we go.
The first look exit the opening of the runway. OMG! color. Beautiful color blocked tops, skirts, dresses in brilliant coral, melon, and mustard. Each style absolutely fantastic, and modern. He also had great fridge skirts and dresses. Some of his pieces were very architectural and sculpted. Great evening pieces were introduced in white, tan, and black with cut out backs, and fringe detailing. I loved his smocked front dresses and tops. His colors were bright, fresh and unexpected. It was a complete 360 from the more subdued black and beige. Charlotte Ronson presentation was fantastic with great flirty prints and chiffon dresses. Her collection was youthful; and is a wonderful revamp of American sportswear. There were long flowing frocks with hits of color detailing that was fun. Ruffles are big this season, and was seen in top skirts and dresses. The hair and makeup was fresh, light, and clean. Sandals with socks, booties, and knit caps top off the look. My absolute favorite collection was Z spoke by Zac Posen. His collection must have been inspired by fruit, so delicious and sweet. His prints were colorful , playful, and insanely fun. Black, blue, yellow, plaid, ruffles and lace, need I say more. The jackets were cut to accentuate and flatter the curves of a woman and still be ever so chic. Brilliantly done! Finally the day ended with Venexiana. Beautiful evening dresses in gold, blue, black, silver, and with great detailing thats fun for the modern vixen. Tomorrow, Max Azria, Diane Von Furstenberg, Custo Barcelona, and Tommy Hilfiger. Keep posted!

There are many describing words, But only a famous fashionista can use the name of a fruit as a descriptive and make it fashionable. Therefore, in the immortal words of Rachel Zoe, day two of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week was 'Bananas' . The first event was the luncheon honoring Karl Lagerfeld with a special visionary award, by the Couture Council of the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology. It was a dream come true as I met and took a picture with Mr. Lagerfeld. He is a legendary icon in the world of fashion and a true inspiration to me. It was the highlight of my life! You can read more about Karl and celebrity guests in a separate blog written specifically about the Luncheon.
Next stop was the Ports 19 6 1 spring 2011 fashion show. Beautiful white dresses, fitted pants, draped top, with hints of color and sparkle made the collection scrumptious. Very elegant and highly sophisticated. After Port's was Alexander Berardi. Black and white stripe dresses, beige trenches, black dresses, as well as gold sequence or beaded pants, and dresses with white tops was extremely chic. A side pony tail hairstyle and flat slippers added comfort and simplicity to the look. Day two also debut BCBGMAXAZRIA, Nicole Miller, Georges Chakra, and the Academy of Art University. So far most designers are using White , beige, and black as staple colors for spring 2011. So get ready for comfortable, draped and fitted clothing as the new season approaches.

6pm and the lobby of the new venue is practically empty, Fashions Night Out is finally here! Major stores around New York City and the tri state area remains open until 11pm. Celebrity guest and designer appearances will take place around the city. Everyone scrambles to be the first, at selected stores for the big events. Fashion Night Out is the industries attempt to get consumers excited about fashion, and to help jump start the economy. Our first stop was JCpenny at the Manhattan Mall. The music was provided by celebrity DJ Samantha Ronson. Special appearance by Gossip Girl starlet Michelle Trachtenberg and designer Charlotte Ronson for her line, sold exclusively at JCP, (I Heart Ronson). New on the fashion circuit is a company called FashionEats founded by Tiffany Lee and Megha Rana, which makes cute little bite size cupcakes, and catered the nights event . With names like, little black dress, flirty in white, and sexy red stiletto, FashionEats is becoming very popular amoung the fashion crowd. Inspired by fashion and trends, each little cupcake is stylish, chic, and ever so tasty. Samantha pumped up the music, as guest mingled and eat cupcakes. Next we ran over to the Max Azria flag ship store on 40th and 5th Ave. The designer himself greeted gusts as they came in the store. His clothes are brilliant! Always fun, sophisticated, and très chic, Max Azria is one of the great designers of our time. He is a sweetheart! Guest received gift bags filled with goodies, while sipping wine and shuffling through the racks. The experience was unforgettable. That being said, I am looking forward to seeing his spring 2011 collection this Sunday. Our final stop was Soho. The streets were over crowded. The entire city was out and about. Traffic was brought to a crawl as people walked the streets carefree. The area was filled with celebrity appearances, such as Rachel Zoe at piperlime, Gwen Stefani at Sophora, Halle Berry at Rag & Bone, and much more. Crowds screamed and rushed over as they see a celebrity exit a store. Again, 'Bananas' . Overall, Fashion Night Out was a success. New Yorkers were out shopping, sampling treats, sipping champagne, and receiving free goodies while meeting celebrities and fashion designers. I love Fashion! Day three will preview the following collections: Cynthia Rowley, Prabal Gurung, Vivienne Tam, Charlotte Ronson, Z spoke by Zac Posen, and Venexiana. Stay posted!

Day 1 - Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Spring 2011

Hello my fashionistas, Fashion week is finally here. Today (9/9/10) is the 1st day of the spring 2011 fashion shows at Lincoln Center. All excitement is buzzing as Miss Jay, Alan Cumming, and many more celebrities flock to the center.The 1st big show of the day was Project Runway. Awesome! However, I will not spoil the surprise. You will have a stay tune to the Lifetime network for the finalists and winner. After PR, we headed to Richard Chai.
This season his color pallet were shades of natural, tan, and grey with a touch of blue that was fresh. The collection had a men’s wear feeling with layered looks. Overall his collection was very light, sheer, and easy going. Our third viewing for the day was Christian Siriano. Delicious is a great word used to describe his collection. Oscars anyone! Great evening looks; very chic and bold. Bensoni is fairly new to fashion week. It was more intimate setting for viewing the cloths. They had very simple and wearable pieces. I love the play of color in dresses and skirts. Overall, very cute. Concept Korea was beautiful. Three designers showcase their collections. The 1st collection was inspired by fairy tail. It had a playful look of fantasy and high fashion mixed The second collection was men’s wear. The black and dark urban looks were very unusual for spring. However, the fabrics were light and silky. The final collection was presented slightly differently, because the models did not do the usually runway walk. Each model stopped at a certain point that added freshness to the show. Very cool, chic, and avant guard. I loved it! Richie Rich ended the day with drama and bedazzle. His looks were fun, girly, colorful, and street punk. Richie opened the show with ballet dancers parading around on the runway, and a sexy hot DJ. It’s very fitting, as IMG settles into the new venue. For spring 2011, White, bright pink and splashes of color, will be some of the season’s biggest trend, along with ruffles, ruffles, and more ruffles. On the other side of the spectrum, neutrals, black and grays will offer the consumer a more toned down look. The second half of the show was very entertaining with bare asses, hot bodies in swimsuits, club chic, bondage, and leather with studs; all gave an interesting contrast compared with the first half of the show. The show ended with silver glitz and a celebratory bang! Day one is over; tomorrow BCBGMAXAZRIA, Ports1961, Nicole Miller, and fashion Night Out.

Walking up to the event at the Eventi Hotel hosted by Jessica White I knew it was going to be good - you could see the colorful lights and hear the music 7 floors down on the street. And I was not disappointed. Between 100-200 people turned out to see the stlying talents of WNBA star Cappie Pondexter.
The show was presented by 4 Seasons Style Management on an outdoor terrace, with 2 bars serving Pinnacle Tropical Punch Vodka concoctions, Tanqueray Gin and tasty Sangrias while DJs Faddelf and Eque spun. Jessica White was on hand to kick off the fashion show styled by Cappie and her business partner, celebrity stylist Lisa Smith-Craig . The focus was on styling a more athletic build with many of the models actually being WMBA players.
The stylists used a combination of designers such as Disposition, Josh Duran and Charles Alpert plus many more. The looks were predominately black, which a few exceptions, and had a definite dark edge to them. When asked what her inspiration was for the looks she pulled Cappie referenced Alexander Wang and Helmut Lang among her favorite designers and the motivation for the outfits. A couple of the stand out pieces were fitted black bodysuit and shorts with great shoulder pads made out of individual strips of shiny patent leather that rounded high over the shoulder to form a bubble effect as well as a great gold chain number that closed the show.

Even though Cappie still has a lot of basketball ahead of her I have a feeling that the fashion industry will welcome her with open arms when she's ready to focus all her attention in this direction. This is one of the main reasons Jessica signed up to host the event. While she hasn't known the basketball superstar for long when she heard about what Cappie was trying to accomplish through the message that female athletes can in fact still be sexy, fashionable and feminine she knew it was something she wanted to be a part of.

Ed Hardy..Oh La La

What’s in a show? Fashions, flashing lights and fabulous people…right? But in the Ed Hardy swim 2010 show we can’t forget to add funky tunes. Lights shooting at you from every angle in a myriad of colors and Usher’s “OMG” blasting through the speakers, heads nodding and camera’s flashing and this is all before the first model hits the runway.As the ladies strutted and the fellas swayed down the catwalk I couldn't help but to notice a few familiar faces seated in the audience, one in particular just happened to be Corde’ the eldest son of the one and only Snoop Dog, who also walked in the show. No wonder the ladies were hollering.
Most of us are use to an Ed Hardy design being soaked in colors and embellishments, but the few black pieces in this collection spoke as loudly as the beats did. The suits were very cheeky for the ladies and the guys show off that PERFECT “V” that we gals adore. The prints were very playful in mix colors of yellow, blues, white and reds; some with pops of color and flavor. Ed Hardy stayed VERY true to himself with TONS of chains. My Favorite piece in the collection was the sexy chain cover-up worn over a strapless bikini that appeared at the end of the show. The show took place in one of the sexiest places on earth, South Beach, FL in the heart of Miami. The people are all about skin and color; I mean what’s sexier than that? Mr. Dog’s son was pretty sexy but that’s a different story.As the DJ spins a lil Jeezy for the crowd the last long legged beauty breezes down the runway. All and all, it was a pleasant surprise to see that black has claimed a spot in the ED Hardy Swim 2010.

CURVE NY Intimate Apparel Show

It was a successful day at the Javitz Center for the Curve NY intimate apparel and swimwear show. It’s important to have the right underwear with the right fit, and The Curve NY show is the perfect place to find all of the top-brands that celebrities and commoners alike prefer!
To start, we checked out Betsey Johnson. The designer and her company are best known for their funky, girly, and exciting creations.Her intimate apparel was no different. With a plethora of wild, fun, and flirtatious prints, she was the first collection that we saw, but definitely a favorite of the day!

Next, we stopped into the Spanx booth. Spanx by Sarah Blakely is used by most celebrities to smooth out and suck in those unwanted bulges! They are a necessity for awards shows and for getting a flawless look in those body-hugging gowns. Spanx is great to wear everyday and is beyond comfortable; Spanx has even expanded to tank tops that can be worn out side, not just as underwear! There is even a line of Spanx for men.

Commando is best known for their no-seam technology and has expanded their extremely popular line with cotton panties that’s designed to keep away those panty lines (!!!!). Commando’s “Cotton Cami”, and “The Tulip” thong is new to the collection and will spice up your plain Jane underwear drawer with something a little sexier. They also begun to design hosiery which still embody the excellent fit concept, and the prints used can definitely spice up an outfit! From animal prints to a new take on the "fishnet" stockings, these new products by Commando are certainly something to look forward to!

Hanky Panky is another brand that every woman should own. As the inventor of the "thong,” they also offer a huge assortment of shapes for intimate apparel. Crotch-less underwear is huge in their upcoming collections, and on the other side of the spectrum, a new, longer boy short! To keep that boy short sexy, they have made it available in lace! Known for their comfort, it’s no wonder everyone in Hollywood has invested in Hanky Pankys. With the repertoire that has been buzzing for the upcoming seasons, Hanky Panky will remain one of the leaders in intimate apparel.

Finally we popped into Hollywood Fashion Tape . What started as a company that just produced fashion tape, “two-sided tape to keep garments in place” (a favorite of celebrities, think JLo in that plunging Versace dress!), has now expanded to the bandeau dress, top, Hollywood bodysuit, full body shaper, hip hugger, and the panty shaper, to name a few. Lois Hill Jewelry - New ideas Using Old-Age Techniques

Lois Hill is no stranger to the fashion industry. She has been designing her jewelry line for over ten years. But, when you look at her intricate designs you get the distinct feeling that it's been a lot longer - possible 1000's of year. That is because Lois uses techniques not seen or practiced in many decades to craft her amazing silver jewelry.

Lois started out as a belt maker and was happy to be the woman with a great belt collection until one fateful day when a very wise gentleman told her she needed to turn her belt weaving talent into a pair of earrings; and I for one am very happy she heeded that advice! Over the years Lois Hill's team has grown from a small group of seven artisans to over 500 - most (if not all) of whom have been trained by Lois herself.

As you look through the large array of designs you notice that there are common themes through out the collection. Namely her ability to combine contemporary designs with techniques that dates back to 3000 BC. Each piece is hand carved using sterling silver, tools, and methods unique to the designer. For her signature script designs she uses a combination of granulation and filigree. A technique inspired by ancient Scandinavian art work. Using glue from tiny red and black berries, Lois and her artisans place tiny silver ball of graduating sizes around the hand carved script which creates a 3-D effect. Another technique used by the designer is the ability of weaving silver so that it takes on an almost fabric like texture - it reminded me of chain-mail. Some of the procedures used to do the weaving are so intricate that the artisans can only weave one to two inches a day!

Lois has dedicated many years to travel and learning. She cleverly furnished her studio with great antique pieces collected from the many different countries she has visited and incorporated her jewelry collection around them, creating an unique experience of past and present; The result is a very organic, unpretentious and calming atmousphere.
My personal favorite was the wooden giraffe collection she brought back with her from Nairobi, along with the 1920's antique cameras. It was really wonderful to learn about the techniques that go into this incredible collection. I know there is only good things in store for Lois. It was a pleasure to spend time with such an incredible woman and exceptional designer.

I loved the shoes and accessories. Boots, boots, and more boots, it's a must for fall; as short, long, mid calf, and ankle lengths were all presented. Chain necklaces, earrings, bracelets and charms were big bold and chic. Cookware, dining sets, furniture, and many household goods were also showcased with style. Warm, cozy, and inviting with holiday cheers was the mood set by JCPenny, as buyers, stylist, and trendsetters previewed the products that will arrive in stores this October.
