LaQuan Smith Fall/Winter 2014 Collection - Eccentricity of Josephine Baker
LaQuan Smith debut his Fall/Winter 2014 collection
in the Flatiron District, NYC on Feb 10th amidst the excitement of
fashion week. The small open launch space was perfect as models came out
and stood on both sides of the runway, presentation style. In such an
intimate setting guest were able to view every detail of the collection.
For the second time around, LaQuan featured both men's and women's wear
simultaneously. Inspired by the eccentricity of Josephine Baker and old
war stories told to him by his grandfather the collection is sexy, fun,
and super chic. The fabrics used as well as the cut and form of each
piece defines the body to perfection. The collection had many strong
pieces, but for me standouts were the PVC and lace high-waist skirt and
bralette, the black long-sleeve lace gown, the long neoprene coat, as
well as the cropped wool military jacket and neoprene milky way skirt.
Women get to have the best of both worlds as the menswear featured are
all unisex pieces. Laquan is no stranger to the fashion world. The New
York base designer has already been featured in the pages of Vogue,
Italian Vogue, Essence, Marie Claire, and Seventeen magazine. His
designs have also been worn by celebrities such as Rhianna, Rita Ora,
Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga and many more. Inquires @ Laquansmith.com
